Stormwater System Improvements in Roanoke Park
In response to requests received from residents in the Roanoke Park Neighborhood, the City of Raleigh has authorized a storm drainage improvement project for this area.
The Roanoke Park neighborhood was originally developed around 1920. Some of the storm drainage infrastructure is undersized and inadequate for the amount of drainage it is receiving. This project is proposed to relieve these shortcomings.
There is a history of significant street flooding at the intersection of Dare Street and Aycock Street. Other areas around the neighborhood have been identified as areas needing drainage relief. These include Dare Street & Perry Street, Bickett Boulevard & Duncan Street, and Fairview Road & Bickett Boulevard. Drainage problems are mainly due to a lack of storm drainage inlets and/or undersized inlets and pipes.
The project proposes to relieve the drainage problems with the addition of inlets at the targeted intersections and a new drainage system up Dare Street.
The City of Raleigh is asking interested residents in the area to review and discuss the plans for this project. Citizens are encouraged to provide input into the process. There will be a presentation made at an upcoming Five Points CAC Meeting. If you cannot attend, please feel free to provide input to the City of Raleigh Project Engineer for this project, Dan Brubaker, at 996-4019 (direct) or 996-3940 (office), or via e-mail at John.Brubaker@ci.raleigh.nc.us.
